John Parkins

John Parkins is professor and Chair in the Department of Resource Economics and Environmental Sociology at the University of Alberta. His current research and teaching examine the social context of resource development, renewable and community energy, public deliberation and environmental politics, and sustainable agriculture in Alberta. Recent publications examine case studies of community energy in western Canada, barriers and opportunities for wind power development in Alberta, the social context of public engagement in fracking and forestry in Canada.
Feng Qiu
Most of Feng’s work uses statistical and econometric analysis to solve practical problems that have a significant impact on policy and business decisions. The empirical projects she has done include analyzing agricultural land loss and land fragmentation in Alberta, investigating market integration between agricultural commodities, traditional fuels and bioenergy markets, assessing the urban food environment, estimating people’s willingness to improve the food environment and many more. |
Dr. Feng Qiu is an Associate Professor in the Department of Resource Economics and Environmental Sociology, University of Alberta. She received her Ph.D. in Economics (Minor in Statistics) from North Carolina State University in 2012. Feng’s research interests focus on land use, bioenergy, price and market, and food environment. She teaches econometrics, land economics and financial management courses at the U of A.

Dr. Henry An is Associate Professor and Associate Chair (Graduate Studies) in the Department of Resource Economics and Environmental Sociology at the University of Alberta. He is primarily interested in examining the economics of technology adoption with a focus on biotechnology and the agri-food sector. Some of his current research projects include: quantifying the economic impact of adopting blockchain technology in the beef and pork sectors, identifying incentives to encourage genomic information sharing among beef producers in Alberta, and investigating the factors influencing wheat variety adoption in the Canadian Prairies.Categories:
