ALES Festival of Experiential Learning

Introducing the Frank Robinson Youth Academy for Nature, the Environment and Feeding the World

Be our guest as we celebrate the power of learning with dirty hands.

Please join us to celebrate inspiring stories from kindergarten through to post-secondary students made possible by the Frank Robinson Youth Academy (FRYA) in the Faculty of Agricultural, Life & Environmental Sciences. Hear from students and educators about their hands-on experiences in agriculture, food and environment this last year. As our partner in teaching through experiential learning, we invite you to celebrate and learn more about what’s to come.

Date: April 18, 2024
Time: 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. (Coffee and light refreshments available at 8:30)
Location: Maple Room, Lister Centre

Join us for a celebratory announcement followed by short presentations on experiential learning from different perspectives, including:

•  Frank Robinson speaking to the power of the “spark moment” in teaching

•  Examples of animal science education for junior and high school students

•  A story of how a 3-day internship turned into a career

About the Frank Robinson Youth Academy (FRYA)

FRYA supports programs that aim to:

  • Promote food security—ensuring that everyone has physical, social and economic access to nutritious food.
  • Build connections with youth and nature.
  • Support and enhance cultural diversity in agriculture and environmental sectors.
  • Present experiential learning opportunities to help youth consider careers in agriculture, food production and the environment.

Find out how you can participate as a student, educator or internship host, or learn more about future programming at this event.

This donor-funded initiative is named for Dr. Frank Robinson, who has inspired students to pursue careers in animal and poultry science, agricultural community development and research since he first joined the U of A in 1986.
