Thesis Topic: Drought and Surface Water in Alberta: Policy Reviews

Abstract:

The global impact of drought on ecosystems, communities, and economies underscores the significance of water resource management. Understanding the dynamics of drought and surface water extent in Alberta is crucial, as water resources play a significant role in sustaining ecological functioning and supporting numerous sectors. My thesis examines the interplay between drought and surface water in Alberta between 2020 and 2022, with a specific emphasis on the impact of drought on the availability of surface water. The correlation between drought and surface water can serve as a valuable instrument for policy makers. By analyzing the values of Vegetation Health Index (VHI), we can predict areas that are likely to see decreased amounts of surface water. This is crucial for proactive drought management and water resource management.
