Fashion design for plus sizes is often overlooked in contemporary garment production. This presentation will explore key topics including an overview of Fat fashion, an analysis of the anatomical features of larger bodies, common pitfalls and best practices in plus-size design, and the application of Fat-centered design principles. Additionally, the talk will examine advanced pattern-making techniques for plus-size bodies, emphasizing the need for a more inclusive approach in fashion. This session seeks to advance academic conversations on size diversity and design inclusivity within the fashion industry.

About Leila Kelleher
Leila Kelleher is an Assistant Professor of Fashion Design and Social Justice at Parsons School of Design in New York City. She holds a PhD in Biomechanics from the University of Western Ontario, Canada. Dr. Kelleher integrates biomechanics with fashion design to innovate plus-size fashion. As co-founder of the Size Inclusion in Fashion Lab, her work advances size inclusivity in the industry. Her book on plus-size pattern-making will be published by Bloomsbury in 2025.
